About Us

Hogwatch is a project being run jointly by Barnsley Biodiversity Trust and Penistone Friends of the Earth. Our aim is to get better information about the numbers and distribution of hedgehogs in the Penistone Area so we can take action to help them.

Organisations involved

Barnsley Biodiversity Trust have written the Biodiversity Action Plan for Barnsley, which includes hedgehogs as a priority species. We do a lot of work protecting important species, including work in schools making hedgehog friendly areas and reintroducing hedgehogs.

Penistone Friends of the Earth has campaigned and taken practical action on many environmental issues. Recently, we have worked with the council, churches and the public to create wildflower areas for bees and have called for a bee action plan.

Hogwatch is kindly sponsored by the Co-operative Membership Community Fund, South Yorkshire Community Foundation and Penistone Round Table.
